GONG WAH – Cologne’s Alternative Rock and Fuzz Wave Band
GONG WAH is an alternative rock band from Cologne, Germany, founded in 2017 by guitarist Thorsten Dohle and singer Inga Nelke. Known for their unique Fuzzwave sound, the band blends distorted guitars, cold New Wave vibes and catchy songwriting into a distinctive style that has captivated fans of modern alternative music. Shortly after the duo’s formation, guitarist Felix Will joined and together they developed their first demos in a dark, cave-like rehearsal space, laying the foundation for the GONG WAH sound.
Starting as a trio with pre-recorded bass and drums, GONG WAH performed their first intimate guerilla gigs in small venues across Cologne. In 2018, bassist Giso Simon and drummer Nima Davari joined, expanding the band into a full five-piece lineup. With this formation, the band released their critically acclaimed debut album GONG WAH (2020) and the follow-up A SECOND (2022) via TONZONEN RECORDS. The single THIS LIFE achieved #14 on the German Alternative Charts, while both albums received positive reviews from international music press.
In 2024, GONG WAH returned to their core trio to record their third album THE HEALING VOLUME, again produced in their own studio. The album was released on April 11, 2025, through TONZONEN RECORDS and was hailed as a major evolution in the Fuzzwave and New Wave genres. In autumn 2024, bassist Ingo Ruttke and drummer Wolly Düse joined, bringing exceptional musicianship and long-standing friendship to the band.
GONG WAH continues to perform live at concerts, festivals and exclusive events across Germany and Europe, delivering high-energy performances and pushing the boundaries of alternative rock and Fuzzwave. With a dynamic new album and lineup, GONG WAH is firmly establishing itself as one of Cologne’s most exciting modern New Wave bands in 2025 and beyond.
